On an October evening in 1959, five secretaries in Miami, Florida, met to discuss the possibility of forming a group consisting solely of architectural secretaries, which could benefit the architectural profession and the community. Each of the five secretaries subsequently contacted other architectural offices, and on October 21, 1959, the first meeting of The Architectural Secretaries Association, Inc. (ASA) was held. We have come a long way from the Architectural Secretaries Association (Society of Architectural Administrators and then Society for Design Administration).
SDA remains at the center of A/E/C business success, equipping our members and their firms with the resources necessary to address the key issues facing the profession and advance positions to elevate the critical role A/E/C business professionals play in the industry.
60 years later, we salute these founders as we celebrate our history and where SDA is today. We asked our Past National Presidents to share a favorite memory from their term or other fond SDA experience. This is a compilation of those memories from many of our past leaders.
