Certification Renewal Process

Beginning January 1, 2008, these are the following requirements for renewal:

The emphasis on the certification renewal process is on continuing education hours. The renewal period is now annual. The renewal requirements are as follows:

  • A total of 18 continuing education points (1 point = 1 hour) will be required annually for the renewal process. These points can be obtained from any of the PEG groups. It will no longer be necessary to submit certificates of Attendance or program flyers for the individual programs. An Attendence Record can be used for recordkeeping purposes, however.  All CEUs are subject to audit for up to three years after submission.
  • Be a SDA member in good standing (active member—no delinquent dues)
  • No further submission of association activities and employment data will be required.
  • The renewal fee of $25.00 will be due when you pay your annual dues.
  • Any member who currently holds the SDA/C designation (but who has not achieved "Completed” or "Emeritus” status) will automatically be converted to the new CDFA designation and will be subject to these continuing education requirements.

All members who are currently certified will be responsible to recertify beginning with the 2009 dues renewal process.  Therefore, 18 hours of continuing education should be accomplished in the calendar year of 2008 (January 1 – December 31, 2008).

Grandfather Clause: Members who have achieved "Completed” status and/or "Emeritus” status  will be excluded from these renewal requirements and will retain the SDA/C designation.

Active certified individuals that have not yet attained "completed” and/or "Emeritus” status will continue to have annual continuing education requirements until they retire or reach "Emeritus” status.  The non-completion of the required continuing education will be cause for denying the use of the certification designation.
