EDConnect21 - Day 1 is in the Books - What Was Your Biggest Takeaway?

EDConnect21 is off to a great start. We kicked off the conference with Ted Gerber as he presented "Developing a Mutual Gain Mindset to Effectively Manage Conflict in Organizations." We closed Day #1 out with Bill Truby's presentation "QUICKLY Eliminate People Problems in Your Design Firm/Team." Both sessions were packed with insights and tips that can be immediately put to use in the office.

Here are two of our favorite quotes from Ted's session:  "Have some patience with the blah, blah, blah" and "To be effective in conflict management, you have to be a good observer."

Bill's advice: "Don't improve your success by only focusing on eradicating the negativity. Rather, squeeze our negativity by implementing the positive!"

What were some of your some of your biggest takeaways, ah-ha's, quotes and other ideas that you are going to start using? Share in the comment box below.

These were indeed great sessions! From Ted Gerber, the statement "You can't resolve a conflict until both parties realize there is one" really struck home. From Bill Truby, it was "You will never get what you don't give", which is a great reminder to treat others how you want to be treated. I'm looking forward to more awesome sessions in the coming weeks!

Everyone who attended from our firm yesterday (and there were at least a dozen) thought the sessions were full of value. One of my key takeaways from Ted Gerber's session came at the end when he asked the question "If I had to accept their view, how would I implement it?" This question alone will help me understand someone else's position and perspective. In the second session, I'm going to concentrate on Bill's advice that in order to solve the problems, we need to "Focus on what we want, not on what we don't want." I can't wait to see what Thursday's sessions bring.

Fantastic start to EDConnect21! For Ted's Conflict Resolution, I really took to heart the reminder to bond with your audience by seeking & identifying the common ground and going into the conversation with the mindset that you will find a solution. On Bill's session, I loved the point about the "what" & "how". If you "want" to open the door, and are pushing it (a how) and not getting the results, try to pull the door (another how) to get your want! I love that simple analogy.

My favorite Quote from Tuesday was during Bill's People Problems presentation, "You never get what you don't give." and love the concept of changing the perspective from "Chain of command" to "lines of accountability."
