Document accessibility is crucial for our A/E/C deliverables, especially for governmental clients complying with Section 508 of the Federal Rehabilitation Act. Effective since 2018, this law ensures electronic information is accessible to people with disabilities, including those using Assistive Technology like screen readers. Unlike ADA requirements, Section 508 applies to public agencies and organizations receiving federal funding and mandates that online content and tools be designed for equal access to information and functionality. Everyone has the right to consume content online. One person in five has a disability, which could be visual, hearing, motor, or cognitive. Disabilities are often invisible, and technology advancements now make it easier for people with disabilities to access information. However, for this technology to be effective, we must create documents that are accessible to all. For instance, screen readers need properly formatted documents, and web forms must be navigable without a mouse. Join our session to learn how to meet these requirements and ensure your work is accessible to everyone.
