Day #6 of EDConnect21 is now complete and we got some great information to close out our conference.

Chandra Storrusten talked about "Lessons from Outside the Industry: Utilizing Talent to be Disruption Proof.Chandra provided some statistics about how bringing in talent from outside the industry could open our eyes to new ideas and innovation, which could be especially helpful as finding talent continues to be a challenge in our industry.

In the afternoon session, Attorney Michael Murtaugh closed out the conference with a great, practical conversation "Pontifications on Creating and Maintaining Protective Project Files." Mike gave us a peak behind the curtain on how attorneys work and think when a client comes in with a potential lawsuit. He shared practical tips about project documentation and the importance of promptly getting accurate information into the project history.

EDConnect21 - Day #5 is Over--What Did You Learn?

Posted By Stephanie Kirschner, FSDA, Wednesday, October 27, 2021
Updated: Wednesday, October 27, 2021

Yesterday we completed Day #5 of EDConnect21 and there were plenty of nuggets of learning from our presenters!

Jack Smith  spent time talking about "Cybersecurity and the Role You Play.We learned some new terms including 'doomscrolling/doomsurfing' and 'Zoom laryngitis.' We could certainly all relate! He talked to us about how remote work is inherently more dangerous and provided some tips to consider when working outside the office.

In the afternoon session, Brad Wilson presented "Business Improvement Strategies for Success Transitions." Among his tips and insights were that we need to be future ready, that people/soft skills are critical for transition success and that we should understand that it takes about 10 years for transition, so we should be planning accordingly.

EDConnect21 Continues - What Were Your Takeaways for Day #3?

Posted By Administration, Tuesday, October 19, 2021
Updated: Tuesday, October 19, 2021

Week #2 of EDConnect21 is underway. We had two powerful presentations today. First we hear from Ryan Jolley with "Everyone Hates Your Bonus Program: Here's How to Fix It!" We closed the day hearing from Diane Mika and Julie Stanton as they shared "The Go/No-Go Process: Promoting Effective Marketing and Risk Management." Both sessions were packed with insights and tips that can be immediately put to use in the office.

Two of our favorite quotes from Ryan's session:  "Profits are what give us the ability to do the extra and fun things that our employees all want." Also, "What gets measured gets done, what gets measured AND feedback gets done well, what gets rewarded get repeated."

During our afternoon program, Diane and Julie gave us lots to consider while walking us through two case studies to see how a Go/No-Go scoring system can work. PLUS, they addressed the importance of understanding the costs associated with the preparation of a proposal.

Share in the comment box below some of your biggest takeaways.

Day #2 of EDConnect is Complete - What Were Your Biggest Takeaways?

Posted By Administration, Thursday, October 14, 2021
Updated: Thursday, October 14, 2021

The first week of EDConnect21 is complete. The second day of the conference offered two great sessions.

Bryon McCartney started the day with his program "Your Brand, Your Website and Your Content." We finished Day #2 with a presentation "Increasing Client Experience and Innovation through Diverse Thinking: How Diversity in Leadership Leads to a Better Product and More Profitable Organization" including panelists Jason Green, Amanda Roehl and Chandra Storresten (and facilitated by Joshua Lowery).

Both sessions provided many insights and the panel presentation gave us lots of food for thought and things to consider putting into practice.

Some of our noted quotes from today's sessions:

From Bryon McCartney:

"The homepage of your website must answer three questions for your visitors:

  1. What do you do?
  2. Why should they care?
  3. What do they do next?"

From our panelists (Jason Green, Amanda Roehl and Chandra Storrusten):

"Diverse clients and employees ask better questions."

"We need to switch the language from DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) to REI (Respect, Empower, Include)"

EDConnect21 - Day 1 is in the Books - What Was Your Biggest Takeaway?

Posted By Stephanie Kirschner, FSDA, Wednesday, October 13, 2021
Updated: Wednesday, October 13, 2021

EDConnect21 is off to a great start. We kicked off the conference with Ted Gerber as he presented "Developing a Mutual Gain Mindset to Effectively Manage Conflict in Organizations." We closed Day #1 out with Bill Truby's presentation "QUICKLY Eliminate People Problems in Your Design Firm/Team." Both sessions were packed with insights and tips that can be immediately put to use in the office.

Here are two of our favorite quotes from Ted's session:  "Have some patience with the blah, blah, blah" and "To be effective in conflict management, you have to be a good observer."

Bill's advice: "Don't improve your success by only focusing on eradicating the negativity. Rather, squeeze our negativity by implementing the positive!"

What were some of your some of your biggest takeaways, ah-ha's, quotes and other ideas that you are going to start using? Share in the comment box below.
